The island is bounded by the Tyrrhenian Sea to the north, the Ionian to the east and the Sicilian Sea to the south-west; the Strait of Messina separates it from Calabria.

LIPARI e SALINA per la loro superficie e per le strade asfaltate che le percorrono, sono le uniche isole dell'arcipelago dove e' opportuno utilizzare l'auto o lo scooter per visitarle interamente.
Un tempo erano numerosissime anche i sentieri, usati dai contadini per raggiungere i campi, disseminati in tutta l'isola, mentre oggi in gran parte sono difficilmente percorribili, perche' invasi dalla vegetazione spontanea. Solo alcuni itinerari sono possibili senza correre il rischio di perdersi o di dover tornare indietro.
