The island is bounded by the Tyrrhenian Sea to the north, the Ionian to the east and the Sicilian Sea to the south-west; the Strait of Messina separates it from Calabria.

Aeolian Islands - Transport
Due to the nature of their surfaces and their asphalt-covered, the islands of Lipari, Vulcano and Salina are only islands of the archipelago which it is advisable to visit by car or scooter.
At one time, there were also numerous paths across the island that were used by farmers to reach the fields, altough today these are not easy to use since they are now overgrown. They are only a few itineraries that can be made on foot without running the risk of getting lost or having to turn nack.
