Iles Eoliennes - Douze mois de bains
Virgile décrit dans ses vers Vulcano encore fumant parmi les flots’; depuis l’âge du poète latin, la nature intime de l’île n’a pas beaucoup changé. Des fumées denses de gaz sulfureux émises par des fumerolles puissantes se dressent sur la Fossa du cratère. Tout au nord du Porto di Levante, les eaux de la mer sont chauffées par des fumerolles sous-marines plus petites parsemées tout au long de la côte jusqu’à quelques mètres de profondeur.
Derrière celles-ci, dans l’arrière-pays, jaillissent les célèbres sources thermales, où l’on peut prendre des bains chauds dans l’eau de mer et des bains de boue à toute saison et à toute heure du jour et de la nuit. En partant du Porto di Levante, on suit la route qui tourne à droite, autour de l’aiguille, et après cinq minutes on atteint des sources et des fumerolles sous-marines.
