Iles Eoliennes - En quete du Faucon
Les mondes marin et terrestre de l’île offrent un répertoire naturel remarquable. À Salina il existe une grande colonie nidifiante de faucons pèlerins (falco eleonorae), qui arrivent du Madagascar au printemps pour nidifier le long des parois escarpées descendant en surplomb du mont Pizzo di Corvo. Deux fois par semaine les guides de la LIPU (Ligue Italienne pour la Protection des Oiseaux) organisent des excursions pour les birdwatchers.
Il est possible aussi d’observer les faucons de la mer si l’on atteint la paroi de Filo di Branda en partant du port de Rinella. Encore par voie de mer, l’on peut arriver au petit bourg de Pollara, presque caché dans un large amphithéâtre naturel formé par le glissement de la moitié de l’ancien cratère dans la mer. C’est ici que l’on cultive les câpres de plus haute qualité; cet endroit offre également la plage de Pollara, la plus belle de l’île, qui a été choisie pour quelques scènes du film ‘Il Postino’ (Le Facteur). Le tuf de la partie septentrionale est caractérisé par des grottes créées pour abriter les barques; à côté, le basalte de Punta del Perciato présente un arc en pierre spectaculaire, creusé par l’action de la mer.
