Aeolian Islands - The Aeolian museum "L. Bernabò Brea"
Section I. The seventeenth-century Episcopal Palace, next to the cathedral. Materials found during excavations in the Acropolis. Every room in the museum provides written information about to guide tourists: red text offers essential information about the exhibts, while black texts provide more detailed descriptions. Room I – Materials from the earliest Aeolian Neolithic phases (facies of Castellaro Vecchio and trichromic ceramics).
Room II - Materials from the third and fourth Aeolian Neolithic phase (facies thought top be of Serra d’Alto and Diana). Room III – Materials from the fourth Aeolian Neolithic phase (facies of Diana: late fourth and early third millenium BC).
Room IV – Aeolian Eneolithic (facies of Piano Conte: third millenium BC). Late Eneolithic (Facies of Piano Quartara: late third and early second millenium BC).
Room V – Early Bronze Age, Capo Graziano culture: crematory burial ground of the district of Diana. Room VI – Early Bronze Age, Capo Graziano culture (c. 1800-1400 BC). Middle Bronze Age: Milazzo culture (c. 1400-1270 BC). Local ceramics, Aegean imports.
Lower floor.
Room VII – Late Bronze Age. First phase of Ausonian culture (c. 1270-1125 BC).
Room VIII – End of Bronze Age – Second phase of Ausonian culture (c. 1125-900 BC).
Room IX – End of second period of Ausonian civilisation (late ninth century BC). The Ausonia II village was violently destroyed. The burning dwellings (traces of fire were found in the excavation) collapsed and buried all of the household objects. The village appears not to have been reconstructed after this disaster. Room X – Evidence of Greek and Roman civilisation in the urban area of Lipari. Stone cover from the votary space dedicated to Aeolus with the statue of an outstretched lion (mid sixth century BC).
